Mentoring is a key component of The SBU Academy. Team Mentors collect report cards and transcripts of students, regularly check up on student’s academic progress, and support students with issues at home and in school. They provide the bridge between academic and soccer programs. High school seniors are also matched with individual mentors to help them through the college prep process.
Youth build character by completing community service through various activities and by supporting other South Bronx United programs. They also have the opportunity to attend various leadership activities and events during the year. Students on the Youth Council take on additional leadership roles.
Select youth are hired to serve as after school coordinators, soccer coaches, and referees in the SBU Recreational Soccer Program and the City in the Community Programs.
