In South Bronx United's 10th anniversary year, the organization had a greater positive impact on its participants and the community than ever before. SBU now reaches more than 1,300 young people through programming that support college access, mentoring, immigration services, and expanded recreational opportunities. On February 17th, South Bronx United was presented with the 2020 Laureus Sport for Good Award at the Laureus World Sports Awards in Berlin, Germany. The annual award, recognizing a single organization globally that uses sports to achieve an outstanding social impact, was presented by Hugh Grant and Laureus Academy Chairman Sean Fitzpatrick in front of an audience including many of the world's most decorated athletes. At the previous day's press conference, Olympian Michael Johnson interviewed SBU Executive Director Andrew So and student athletes Mohamed Konate and Maria Martinez. Mr. Johnson was also joined by Fitzpatrick, Olympic Gold Medalist Missy Franklin, and former German World Cup start Jens Lehmann. For more on the award, read the press release from Laureus.

On January 8th, 2020, South Bronx United's 2nd Annual Alumni Career Networking Mixer put alumni and Academy seniors in conversation with an impressive group of panelists, who spent the evening imparting practical advice and wisdom from their experiences as students and professionals across dozens of industries. The event marked the commencement of SBU's redeveloped career mentorship program, which aims to better support alumni in developing lasting professional relationships with mentors as they navigate college and transition into careers.
