The SBU Pre-Academy is for boys and girls, ages 8-11 (Grades 3-5), who have are committed to developing as players and growing as individuals. Participants train two times per week and compete in soccer matches against external competition on the weekends. Additionally, participants and family members are expected to attend two educational workshops per year and can receive support through the middle school application process. Families are encouraged to take advantage of resources from SBU's educational, social work, and immigration staff. Youth are encouraged to join the SBU Academy beginning in 6th grade.

The travel soccer component gives South Bronx youth the opportunity to travel outside their neighborhoods, participate in quality soccer training, and compete at a high level. SBU Pre-Academy student-athletes compete on one of three competitive travel soccer teams: Girls U11, Boys U10, or Boys U11. Teams compete year round and train two times per week during the fall and spring and one or two times per week during the winter. Teams are affiliated with the East New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA), US Youth Soccer, and US Club Soccer and are members of the Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League (CJSL) and the Westchester Youth Soccer League (WYSL).

Families contribute an $100 annual registration fee. In cases of severe financial hardship, families can submit a financial assistance for a partial or complete waiver.
